How to Name an Amide
1. Write the hydrocarbon name. Drop the ‘e’. 2. End the name with -amide
Name this molecule.
We know that this is an amide because it has a double bond to an O and a single bond to an N. Therefore, we will follow the rules for naming an amide.

2. Add -amide to get butanamide.
3. Add the number 1 at the beginning, because the functional group is
on the 1st ‘C’.
