  Table O –
Symbols Used in Nuclear Chemistry
  Reffy, Table O (p. 7)
This table shows us the particles emitted through radiation: alpha particles, beta particles, and gamma rays. This table also gives information about neutrons, protons, and positrons.
   • The left column shows the name of the particle. • The center column shows the mass and charge.
Š The top number is the mass.
Š The bottom number is the charge.
• The right column show shows the symbol.
When the nucleus of the unstable atom breaks down,
it emits alpha particles, beta particles, or gamma particles.
There are many Regents questions based on this Reffy.
We will now learn more about alpha, beta, and gamma particles.
