Separating Alpha, Beta, and
Gamma Particles
• Alpha particles (which have a positive charge) deflect (bend) towards the negative electrode, because opposite charges attract.
• Beta particles (which have a negative charge) deflect toward the positive electrode.
• Gamma rays (which have no charge) are not deflected at all. They penetrate straight through.
