Late U.S. Supreme Court Justice
Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said:
“Fight for the things that you
care about, but do it in a way
that will lead others to join you.”
It is a sentiment that Katie Hamilton
fully embraces through her work as
a change management consultant
assisting businesses and organizations
ensure that transformation - whether
strategic, technological, cultural, or
operational - is implemented smoothly,
effectively, and with a minimal amount
of disruption.
“I help organizations become more
digital or improve their culture and
to become more adaptable, and to
help spark innovation and creativity
and collaboration at work,” says
the Cambridge-based entrepreneur,
noting there are a growing number
of pressures facing business leaders
to adapt to change. “They’re thinking
about technology, AI, hybrid work,
burnout, sustainability, and more. This
is where change management comes in
because we encourage them to listen
to what people actually need and
make sure whatever is being designed
is actually suitable, human-centric
design.”
It’s an area of business she became
naturally drawn to after studying
psychology in university and later
working in investment advising for
TD Waterhouse in downtown Toronto
and then later for many years with
consulting giant Deloitte – first in
Montreal and then later London,
England, and then in Toronto.
“I love the psychology of how people
work, and business is all about working
with people and helping people and
leadership,” explains Katie, adding
while working for TD Waterhouse she
spent a great deal of time working with ‘It’s all about getting
people and HR. “People always seem to
complain about how HR is broken. So,
I thought, there’s something here and out there’
decided I wanted to ‘fix’ HR. I wanted a - Katie Hamilton
career where I could help people. There
weren’t a lot of master’s programs in
change management, but I found an
MBA program.” PHOTOS BY KIRAN SIDHU
