Generally, chemical dyes are used
to dye bamboo strips used for
weaving.this project is an
experiment to dye bamboo strips
using non-toxic and biodegradable

colors. The inspiration was derived
from sustainable design
philosophy, in turn questioning the
making of the product.

The initial study included organic
dyeing techniques of wool and
fabric. Some reference has been
taken from Prof. A.G Rao’s book
“Coloring bamboo strips with
natural dyes”.Some dyeing
methods might not work on some
species of bamboo.
The strips are boiled in alum

solution as pre-treatment and
fixative. (10% solution)
