However,thisex仕apolationwouldnotaplytobacteriaem- beddedinabiofilmstructure,because.thebiofilmwould protectthebacteriafromunfavorablegrowthconditions, andamuchhighertemperaturewouldbeneededtoki1lany bacteriaembeddedinthebiofilm.Inthiswork,bacteria weregrowninarichmedium(BCYE-α)whereasthereal- wor1dsystemofahotwaterdistributionsystemisexpected tobeoligotrophic,inwhichthenutrientconcentrationsare perhapstwoordersofmagnitudesmaler.Inthenextfu旬 re work,wewouldliketoverifシtheheterogeneousstructureof Legionellabiofilmbyusingbiofilmflowcelsystem,in whicholigotrophicenvironmentcanbedemonstrated.
