Many of you know that I spend more time on Facebook than I should. I enjoy the
stories, the new inventions, and the humor. Not everyone shares my enthusiasm! In today’s column I would like to discuss ways that we can improve our Facebook conversations and make the whole thing more appealing to everyone! Since I have made more than my share of blunders, I feel I am somewhat qualified to write about this subject.
One of the things that really irks people is when they ask an honest
question and get blown away by answers from people who think they know it all. Because of my age and the number of years spent in this business, I was guilty of being one of those “Know It All’s!” If you didn’t do exactly as I said, you were a moron and would never be able to accomplish what you set out to catch. The only problem with that idea is that I only operate in one very small part of Wisconsin and I have no idea what you might be up against in the other parts of this very large country of ours. Once I realized that I was making
a fool of myself, rather than helping someone out, I changed the way I answered questions entirely. Now if you ask me how to catch a woodchuck, I will tell you what equipment I use and how I set it up. I then explain that this is what works for me in our type of landscape and that I hope it works for you as well. If you continue to have problems, looking for someone else in your area and sending them a message or e-mail will probably help a lot more. Claiming to be an expert in all parts of the country is a little far- fetched for even the best of us!
