Other healthy habits to adopt involve protecting your eyes and eyesight. As residents of the sunshine state, we need to be more aware of the impact the sun and UV rays have on our eyes. Wearing sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats can help protect your eyes from the sunshine. If you are sensitive to light, adjust the lighting in your house to help your eyes. And if you enjoy doing home improvement jobs, carpentry, or playing outdoor sports, be sure to wear the ap- propriate protective eyewear.

By having regular eye appointments, it will allow you talk with your doctor about your concerns and follow any advice he or she may offer.

As we get older, it becomes increasingly more important to maintain good vision and take care of our eyes. Vision is one of the more important aspects of aging well, and it is a strong proponent of feeling healthy. It is natural for our vision to decline as we age, but there are things we can do to main- tain good eye care.

A. It is natural for your vision to change throughout your life. As you age, you might notice that your eyes require more light to read or see; it is dif cult to focus on items that are near; your eyes have dif culty adjusting to the darkness; or reading smaller text is becoming more challenging.

A. There are a few things you can do to better take care of your vision. They include:
Visiting the eye doctor on a regular basis. If you are  fty- ve years or older, it is important for you to get your eyes checked at least once a year. However, your doctor might recommend that you get a check up more than that depending on the state of your vision or health.

Some eyes diseases have minimal symptoms in their early stages, and getting a regular checkup could prevent these diseases. Also, you might not notice if your prescription changes, and by altering it may give you clearer vision.
