It is with a deep sense of loss that I learn today that a truly remarkable person has left us.
His presence graced our lives in so many ways. It was a great honour to have known him as a colleague, mentor and friend. A scholar of great intensity and integrity, he was ever open, patient and helpful. I have learnt much from him, especially about Indian agriculture and employment, and much else. His steadfast commitment to building knowledge from the foundation of ground reality made him so special. I marvelled at his patient plotting of graphs by hand to extract patterns and his excitement when he did so.
He was a friend in need--and only because of his personal efforts we could get an urgent medical appointment in Chennai that proved crucial in 1982. Impossible to forget his kindness.
Vaidy had genuine humility and was always very respectful of the work of others. He always praised the work of his students. We all know how patient and painstaking he was as a teacher and academic guide. He embodied the dream that made CDS what it was, and why it attracted so many of us there.
The memory of his sweet personality, his kindly smile, infectious laughter, sense of humour and inherent goodness will always be with us.
Farewell Vaidy, dear friend. May your soul rest in peace. May we continue to learn from your work and your example. May the CDS dream you helped create live on.

Here is my short piece on Vaidy: You may kindly read it out, time permitting. Tks, R Nagaraj
I was saddened to hear about Vaidy’s passing away. It is also a relief to the noble soul, which was suffering badly for a while now. Spoke to him last month, he sounded in pain, couldn't carry to the conversation much longer.
