Vaidi was a quintessential tam-bram who loved his ‘vatral kozhambu’ and ‘thair shaatham’; and also loved a whisky of an evening. He was either an agnostic or maybe an atheist – I never knew. He certainly had no time for ritualistic religion...But he was one of the truest, gentlest, kindest of men...
Shakespeare had the words for him: “... His life was gentle, and the elements mixed so well in him that Nature might stand up and say to all the world, “This was a man.”...”

Although I was not taught by him Professor Vaidyanathan symbolized CDS for us. I was on email contact with him until recently and he was consistently engaged and interested in my work. A real scholar who has done a great deal to foreground water in history and policy. The future will use his work. My thoughts for his family.

I was surprised that he was gone. I was in fact expecting him to succeed Prof Panikar. The loss was CDS's.
