LETTER TO THE DIRECTOR
ABOUT THE PROGRESS THAT CDS HAS MADE
A Vaidyanathan (a.vaidyanathan053@gmail.com) Dear Sunil
When I was planning to acknowledge the latest annual report of CDS, I discovered that my mail of July last didn’t reach you because of wrong email address. That mail is being forwarded again to you. Kindly acknowledge receipt.
Have just read the annual report. I am very happy to see the progress you have made in expanding the faculty, the range and scope of both faculty and PhD research, the continued success in attracting both faculty and students from all parts of the country and , especially, increased range and scope of collaboration with other universities and research institutions within and outside the country. I wish the report also mentioned the ongoing efforts to get more former faculty and visiting scholars to spend some time at the centre and also the plans to document the history of the centre and its evolution.
The range and scope of substantive research continues to be impressive. The report shows the continuing emphasis of sustained work on important themes even as new areas of emerging importance are being explored. The reporting of substantive aspects of ongoing and completed works is commendable. So is the remarkable expansion in building collaborations and interactive networks with other institutions on diverse topics and with scholars of diverse perspective has the potential to further energise and vitalise the centre's work to contribute to better and deeper understanding of emerging socio economic and political trends. I hope that you and your colleagues will reflect on the wider implications of findings of specific studies and the larger, broader, questions that call for exploration. Congratulations to you on the energy and enthusiasm you have brought to several new initiatives. Wish you and the entire community maintain and build on this....
I wish it were possible for me to interact with the community on these aspects. But that doesn’t seem possible as I am pretty much grounded at home.
The attachments to my earlier mail and the random reflections that are provoked/stimulated by the ongoing turmoil may be of some interest. I look forward to your reactions.
Vaidyanathan
