Solution: The above figure we can count by columns method:
Four columns – one cube each
Three columns - two cubes each
Two columns - three cubes each
One Column - Four cubes each
Below the numbers on the cubes represents the total cubes present on the particular column.

Hence, the total number of cubes be = (4 × 1) + (2 × 3) + (3 × 2) + (1 × 4) = 4 + 6 + 6 + 4 = 20
