               barge: boat for transporting material pulled on towpaths.

               bend: knot that temporarily brings together two ends.


               bosun: foreman of the deck crew responsible for the rigging in the era of sailing
               ships.


               buoy rope: thick rope generally used to lengthen the anchor chain.


               caulk a hull: fill the space between the planking with caulk to make the hull
               waterproof.


               cleats: pieces of wood or metal around which you can moor a rope.


               coils: in a knot, the coils are always made around the hand or a support.


               crease: rope that passes through the holes of the deadeye to stretch and land the
               shrouds and the stays. The crease is the precursor of the turnbuckle.


               deadeyes: round pieces of wood with three holes for tightening the creases in
               the shrouds.


               fairlead: allows you to guide the ropes.

               gasket: a thin rope, between 2 and 5 mm.


               halyards: ropes that allow you to hoist the sails.


               hoist: made up of several pulleys and a rope; allows you to increase arm force to
