In the realm of giant fish, the whale shark reigns supreme. This slow moving filter feeder reaches lengths of 40 feet or more and tips the scales at up to 20 tons, all while feeding only on plankton. This member of the Chondryichtyes family – which includes sharks, rays, and skates – is striking in its appearance not only for its
size but also for the unique pattern of spots and bars covering its gray body.
