The Friends’ Summer Ball
Wow! What a night! From the moment
guests arrived at the Brightlands elds to jazz, zz and canapés, through to the early hours when the ‘after party’ wrapped things up, the Friends’ Summer Ball was simply amazing. The marquee looked spectacular, as did the 500 guests in their Gatsby-inspired nery. The food, music and dancing lived up to the stunning setting. The main event was, of course, the fund-raising auction, and a major highlight of our Open Morning the following week was being able to hand over a cheque to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at King’s College Hospital for the sum of £72,686. Huge thanks must go to everyone for their tremendous generosity and to the committee for their fabulous work organising such a brilliant event.
Year 1 Visit St Stephen’s Church
Year 1 boys had the opportunity to visit
St Stephen’s Church last term. They were extremely interested to see the font and learn why it is so often placed near the entrance to the church, denoting the beginning of the Christian journey. It was a very informative and enjoyable visit.
CWISL CWIZZ 2018
Two teams of boys – one from Year
6 and one from Year 7 - joined 38 other teams from South East London
schools in the sixth annual literary quiz organised by children’s authors from CWISL (Children’s Writers and
Illustrators South London). Between
rounds of highly challenging questions there were chances to meet authors, hear “one minute reads” from their books and compete for individual spot prizes. Our star readers performed admirably and, more importantly, had a wonderful afternoon!
Year 1 European Day
The Year 1 boys had a wonderful European Day on May.They started with a delicious feast from the country they had been studying and then, passports in hand, they ‘ ew’ from Greece to Italy, Portugal and Holland, learning key facts about each country on their whistle- stop tour. Finally, the boys took part in the European Day football tournament. It was
a fantastic day for all involved.
Year 8 Project Week
A highlight of the post exam programme that theYear 8 boys enjoy for the last few weeks
of the summer term is always Project Week. This year the boys had a chance to learn to scuba dive and gain a PADI award, gain a rock climbing quali cation, learn to play and perform a marimba piece for Leavers Day, develop cookery skills and try them out by preparing lunch for invited guests, learn a variety of sculpture techniques and display the results around the site, or even put a street dance routine together which was also performed
in front of their peers and parents at Leavers Day. What a fabulous way to nish a Prep school career!
TEDx
Dulwich Prep London held its inaugural TEDx Conference during the summer term.TEDxYouth@DPL was a roaring success, with pupils from three schools attending and speaking at the event. Each talk began with the phrase “I thought ...” and led onto wonderful, unique and insightful short talks about a wide variety of subjects such as “I thought animals were free”, “I thought you were my friend” and “I thought boredom was bad for you”.
We look forward to making this an annual event and the license forTEDxYouth@DPL 2019 has already been submitted.
