Module 4: Writing with Fluency and Control Teacher’s Guide.
Objective: Correct joining of a Harriet the Cow letter to a Pippa the Rabbit letter
Lesson plan:
In small groups, seated at a table each child has a Write and Wipe Board and a suitable pen. The teacher has the illustrated Harriet the Cow letter cards and Pippa the Rabbit letter cards.
1. Keeping the two card sets separate, lay Harriet the Cow and Pippa the Rabbit letters cards face down. Ask two children to pick a card each so they have two letters to join, e.g. t to p.
2. Demonstrate on your write and wipe board how to join t to p. Remind the children not to lift their pens when writing.
3. Ask two new children to pick a card and repeat the process above until all the letters have been attempted.
More to Learn:
There are no specific phonetic groupings for this objective. The pairing of letters, therefore will make nonsense words. This is still a useful exercise for testing the application of the rules.
To supplement the learning use the preprinted practice page in the appendix, on page 37.
Support:
If the group has good letter formations athey can attempt to join more than two Harriet the Cow and Pippa the Rabbit letters in one turn.
