Module 4: Writing with Fluency and Control Teacher’s Guide.
Objective: Correct joining of an up and over Georgia the Shetland Pony letter to another Georgia the Shetland Pony letter
Lesson plan:
In small groups, seated at a table each child has a Write and Wipe Board and a suitable pen. The teacher has the illustrated Georgia the Shetland Pony letter cards.
1. Shuffle the cards and place the cards face down in a fan shape.
Ask two children to pick a card so they have two letters to join, e.g. o to a.
If the children have already completed joining Harriet the Cow to a Georgia the Shetland Pony letter lesson on page 7 then they will know o is a dip joined letter. If they have not covered this lesson plan please follow items 2-3 on page 7 to introduce this concept.
2. Demonstrate on your Write and Wipe Board joining o to a. Remind the children not to lift their pens when writing.
3. Ask two new children to pick a card and repeat the process above until all the letters have been attempted.
More to Learn:
Key phonetic combinations for this category are: dge, oo, oa, sc, sch and scr.
To supplement the learning use the preprinted practice page in the appendix, on page 38.
Support:
If the group has good letter formations they can attempt to join more than two Georgia the Shetland Pony letters in one turn like in the word ‘dad’ for example.
