Module 3: Learning to Write Teacher’s Guide.
Objective: To write lower case Rupert the White Sheep letter r
Lesson Plan:
Help the children to turn to the page with r in their Letter and Sound Workbook. Demonstrate the letter for the children to copy
1. Demonstrate r on the whiteboard on the Illustrated Paper.
2. The children to finger trace over the large lowercase r in their workbooks.
3. Demonstrate the letter again, saying the step-by-step direction, “start on
the grass, reach to the helicopter line and come back down to the
grass line, reach up to the helicopter line again, and then curve over. Stop at the helicopter line and lead out”. The children watch, then copy r.
4. Help the children to mark their letters for correct start, height and end point. Independent ‘have a go’ work
• The children to then have a go at tracing the letter before forming some independently.
Linking sound, symbol and writing
• Look around the room to find something that begins with the letter r, and draw a picture of it.
More to Learn:
Take the letter card, show it to the children and ask one of them to place it
Support:
Use hand over hand activities to help
those that find the motor pattern more in the room. Use large air writing difficult. Have the children come and
near the poster of Rupert the White Sheep
movements to reinforce the start, height write on the whiteboard, on a
and end point, as well as the formation. Include large body movements to reinforce
the learning.
Connections:
