Lesson Plan:
Help the children to turn to the page with yin their Letter and Sound Workbook. Demonstrate the letter for the children to copy
1. Demonstrate y on the whiteboard on the Illustrated Paper.
2. The children to finger trace over the large lowercase y in their workbooks.
3. Demonstrate the letter again, saying the step-by-step direction, “start on the grass, reach to the helicopter line and come back down to the
grass line, curl around and reach up to the helicopter line again, return to the grass line, don’t stop, keep going down to the worm, curve around and come back to the grass line apnd. lead out. ” The children watch, then copy y.
4. Help the children to mark their letters for correct start, height and end point.
Ind•ependent ‘have a go’ work
The children to then have a go at tracing the letter before forming some letters independently.
Linking sound, symbol and writing
• Look around the room to find something that begins with the letter yand draw a picture of it.
