Jane sets the ball rolling in memory of Zeb Jane Owen once again battled the best Great Britain could throw at her – this time taking on the infamous Three Peaks in just 24 hours to help kick off the fund-raising effort towards the memorial garden. Having already completed the Birmingham half marathon, Jane once again put on her outdoor gear to brave the elements, all in support of the Retired WM Police Dog Benevolent Fund and in memory of Retired Police Dog Zeb. Sadly, Jane and her partner PC Daryl Marsh, had the heartbreaking decision to send retired police dog Zeb over the rainbow bridge earlier this year, having seen him bravely battle an aggressive form of cancer. Zeb was not only a retired police dog, but more importantly a loved family member. As an operational police dog, Zeb served his community bravely, working hard to help keep communities safe. He was an exceptional police dog and a much missed member of the Dog Section. Jane took on the Three Peaks of Snowden, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in the space of just 24 hours to raise money in Zeb’s memory. All of the money the fund received in support of Jane’s courageous challenge, which was just over £150, is being put towards the creation of the memorial garden, where Zeb will be honoured and remembered. The memorial garden will provide a special place for dog handlers and their families to remember and share the memories of the days they spent working together keeping their communities safe. “ Police dog Drake. www.westmidspolfed.com federation August/September 2015 29
