FINE ARTS AP COURSE OFFERINGS


                                                      AP DRAWING
  Description: The submission of a portfolio is required and works could include drawing, painting,
  printmaking, and more.  AP Art Studio Drawing is a production-based art course for students who are
  seriously interested in improving their drawing skills and producing a portfolio of work. The course is
  intended to address a very broad interpretation of drawing issues, techniques, and media. Line quality,
  light, and shade, rendering of form, composition, surface manipulation, the illusion of depth, and mark-
  making are drawing issues that can be addressed through a variety of mediums including drawing,
  painting, printmaking, and mixed media. Style can range from abstract to realistic.


  Skills for Success: Students should have developed advanced drawing skills/technical ability and have a
  strong work ethic. Passion for creating art is a must.


  Academic Suitability: Students must have taken the beginning art courses, Visual Art I/2D and Visual Art
  II/3D.  They must also have taken at least one year of advanced art courses. Drawing and Painting I is
  recommended.


  Out of Class Commitments: This course demands a significant commitment, including at least 10 hours a
  week working on art outside of class.

  Summer Work: Two artworks are due on the first day of school including one realistic drawing (any
  subject matter, any material) and one concentration artwork (work based on a concept or theme).


                                                 AP 2D ART & DESIGN
  Description: The submission of a portfolio is required and works could include graphic design,
  typography, digital imaging, photography, painting, printmaking, and more. AP 2D Art & Design is a
  production-based art course for students who are seriously interested in improving their design skills
  and producing a portfolio of work. The course is intended to address a very broad interpretation of
  design issues. The use of the elements and principles of design guide the artist in making decisions about
  how to organize an image on the picture plane in order to communicate content. Students demonstrate
  mastery through any 2D medium including graphic design, photography, collage, fashion design,
  illustration, painting, and printmaking.


  Skills for Success: Students should have developed advanced design skills and have a strong work ethic.
  Passion for creating art is a must.
