Another key sector that smart connectivity is poised to improve is transportation, especially in terms of enhanced driver safety and overall traffic efficiency. 5G networks will enable roadside sensors to collect a bevy of data in real- time, including vehicle speed, weather, road conditions, obstacles, and traffic jams. These systems, coupled with smart car computer systems, can then leverage vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication technologies to affect transport by adjusting travel routes in response to impactful variables and preemptively avoiding collisions. Once automotive AI advances to the point that reliable self-driving cars are the norm, the sensors on these vehicles will work in tandem with roadside sensors to further improve safety and efficiency. V2X and automotive AI will also save consumers money via driverless public and private transportation, as less money will be tied up in training and paying drivers. The future of delivery seems particularly well suited for taking early advantage of these transportation market innovations via drones, driverless vehicles, and autonomous robots.
There is still much to be done until we can consider ourselves truly in the era of smart connectivity, but we are well on our way as 5G, IoT, AI, and V2X technologies continue to advance, mature, and evolve and make our world more interconnected than ever before. The instantaneous sharing of data, improved efficiency, and low network latency will be a game changer for both consumers and businesses alike and will permanently change the way several key market sectors, including data centers, healthcare, industrial manufacturing, and transportation, operate in the global economy.
