Orchestras Feeding America
Feeding your neighbors while
feeding your soul
The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra is a proud participant
of the national food drive, Orchestras Feeding America.
The program began in 2009 when 215 orchestras in all 50
states participated in a coordinated effort by collecting and
donating food to their local food assistance agencies.
Over the past thirteen years, Orchestras Feeding America
has seen over 370 orchestras from across the country collect
and donate more than 530,000 pounds of food. The efforts
of these orchestras have helped spread the word about how
and why orchestras are so necessary to their communities,
beyond providing amazing music.
Each year, the Phil dedicates our Concert for All Ages to
collecting food for the South Shore Community Action
Council’s Food Resource Program. Sadly, more and more
people throughout the region are making trade-offs between
paying for food and paying for other necessities like heat
for their homes. Given this startling trend of growing food
insecurity and hunger, it is clear there is a direct need for
quality, nutritious food for our local low-income individuals
and families.
“We are proud to partner with the South Shore Community
Action Council in the fight against food insecurity and
nutritional risk among area residents,” said Kim Corben,
Executive Director of the Phil. “Their Food Resource
Program offers a safe haven for neighbors in need.”
Since 1965, the South Shore Community Action Council,
a private not-for-profit organization, has provided a range
of critical services to low-income individuals and families
and has toiled to combat the root causes of poverty in those
communities.
We are grateful to our patrons for supporting the cause and
generously providing food donations year after year at our
Concert for All Ages.
