THE G. HERBERT CLARKE AWARD

The Plymouth Philharmonic was established in 1913
by Kingston violin teacher G. Herbert Clarke. In
commemorating his enduring legacy, the Clarke Award
celebrates the work of individuals who have gone above
and beyond to support the Phil, shaping it into the vibrant organization it is
       today.

The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra is honored to award Tom Hurley the
       2023 G. Herbert Clarke Award.
Tom has been a stalwart supporter of the Phil since 1997, serving on the Phil’s
board of directors as Vice President for most of those years until stepping off
the board in 2005. After retiring from the Board, Tom continued to support
the Phil as a Composers Society Member, Master of Ceremonies for the
annual Bravo Breakfast, and by facilitating Board retreats.
Having spent most of his career in Public Television, Tom and his wife Linda
moved to Plymouth in 1984 where Tom built a direct response fundraising
agency (DMW Worldwide) to serve more than fifty of the nation’s public
broadcasters. In 2015, Tom left DMW to start Hurley Consulting Services.
In addition, Tom, a skilled pilot, is the executive director of the
Massachusetts Airport Management Association. And if you’ve ever been to a
Phil fundraiser, Tom often donates rides in the Piper Arrow to help raise funds
       for the Phil.

Tom and Linda have also traveled the world preparing students for Semester
at Sea, the world’s premier global studies program where students sail around
the world for 106 days with stops in Spain, Ghana, South Africa, India,
Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Japan, and Hawaii before returning to San Diego.

In Tom’s spare time, he volunteers for Pilots N Paws. This heartwarming
organization coordinates shelters with pilots and their planes to provide
transport for animals to their new “furever” homes.
In the true spirit of the G. Herbert Clarke Award, Tom goes above and
beyond to support the Phil and every other organization he is involved with.
Thank you, Tom, for all you do for our community!

“To have such a fine symphony orchestra in our
relatively small, historic community with a full
season of concerts as well as civic and educational
                                      involvement....well, it’s a blessing. And it’s a delight
to serve with all the great folks who make the Phil
what it is today.” - Tom Hurley
