A Note from Kim Corben
year, and there have been six consecutive ones with Corben at the helm, the
Phil meets or exceeds its financial goals. “We run a tight ship, with a small
but mighty staff, mindful of our mission that includes keeping ticket prices
affordable and connecting our communities through a shared experience of
music.”
So far, Corben’s strategic planning and her willingness to be bold have
worked. “I like to push things, try new ideas, especially since what we do buoys
more than just the Phil,” says Corben, referring to the many partnerships the
Phil has across the South Shore community with local businesses, schools and
other cultural organizations . “When you’ve been around since 1913, you’ve
had plenty of bumps along the way—but obviously an amazing amount of
support too.”
With the continued state guidelines keeping large group gatherings on hold, the opportunities for the orchestra to
perform are limited. Like everyone, Corben waits to see how things unfold, but looks for ways to keep the Phil’s mission moving.
“I’m working on a few ideas right now, ways to share music, and support our musicians, as we push through this storm.” Corben’s
eyes drift to the large picture window facing Plymouth harbor, a perk of the recent move, as she looks to the horizon.
