The Phil’s 19th Annual Golf Outing:
Different season, same fun!

When the Massachusetts Covid-19 safety restrictions were
altered to allow small, outdoor socially-distanced gatherings,
the Phil’s annual golf outing was back on the calendar! Working
within the guidelines, Southers Marsh Golf Course and the Phil
golf committee revamped the usual event for a smaller number
of golfers but with the same dose of fun.
The new golf-and-go style outing on September 23 brought

from across the South Shore. As Southers’ cranberry bogs were
showing hints of harvest-time red, Phil staff and volunteers
greeted friends old and new who came out to golf and support
the orchestra. Goody bags, supplied by Ophthalmic Consultants
of Boston, featured custom face masks with the Phil logo.
Golf committee chair, Bryan Graham, of Graham Chiropractic
Center, brought his enthusiasm for fundraising and friend
raising to this year’s outing resulting in a safe and fun day for
all. The ever-popular raffle was a big hit, with many hoping
to win the Yeti coolers, the vacation stay or one of the golf
packages. Congratulations to Jon DiPaulo who was especially

It wouldn’t be a Phil golf event without a crazy contest. Golfers
made donations to take a turn to “chip in for the Phil” - chipping
into a tuba horn, which according to participants “is harder
than it looks!”
“The Phil is grateful to all the golf sponsors, players and in-kind
donors,” says Caroline Chapin, Phil development manager and
organizer of the event. “With the uncertainty about our ability
to hold concerts for the time being, the tournament was more
important than ever and will help sustain the orchestra during
these challenging times.”
