Message from the Board Chair

        Dear friends,
Welcome to the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra’s Mysteries of the Heart concert.
Like all great music, the diverse pieces in this performance express deeply felt
emotions drawn from many wells of personal experience by our three featured composers – Sibelius,
Beach and Elgar. This is transcendent music, as it reaches beyond the individual experiences that
inspired it to speak to the universal human condition.
For 106 seasons, the Plymouth Phil has been enriching our lives by bringing such beautiful, joyful,
passionate music to its audiences. In the Phil, we are blessed to have an extraordinary music director
and musicians who are able to bring these emotions to life. What a gift that is.
We are in turn thankful to you, our audience members. What makes live music so powerful is that it
is a shared experience – not only between performers and listeners, but among audience members
themselves. Live music binds us together. It builds community, no matter our differences.
On behalf of the board, staff and musicians of the Phil, thank you for the joy of sharing our music and
your enduring support of the orchestra – in whose performances we find our common humanity.

        Cheers,

        Paul F. Jean
        Chair
        Board of Directors
        From the Executive Director

Welcome! I am delighted that you are joining us for Mysteries of the Heart,
a gorgeous concert featuring works from the romantic era of classical music.
Tonight, we present members of the South Shore Conservatory Youth Orchestra
performing side-by-side with Phil musicians. Under Elijah Langille’s direction, the Youth Orchestra
is well prepared and ready to take center stage in what will be an inspiring and enriching
        experience for all involved!
In addition to the Youth Orchestra, we’re honored to welcome acclaimed pianist Randall
Hodgkinson in a performance of Amy Beach’s Piano Concerto. Randall is an award-winning
musician who will bring intensity and excellence to this riveting tour de force between piano and
        orchestra.
It is my hope that you will continue to be moved by the artists the Phil brings to the stage for the
remainder of the season and beyond. These past few seasons have shown the tremendous need
for live music, and we intend to honor our commitment to offering concerts of the highest quality
as we look ahead to a brighter future.
I look forward to seeing you in the audience at Memorial Hall!
