ABOUT SENSE & SENSIBILITY
Hampton and Haddow developed Sense & Sensibility, The Musical at the prestigious BMI Musical
Theater Workshop, known for nurturing numerous Broadway hits. The musical’s journey from
workshop to stage culminated in its World Premiere at the Denver Center Theatre Company in
2013, where it captivated audiences with its fresh take on Austen’s classic tale of love, family,
and societal expectations in Regency-era England. Praised for its faithful rendering of Austen’s
wit and emotional depth, the Denver production featured some of Broadway’s leading singers
and was staged by Tony-nominated director, Marcia Milgrom Dodge with musical direction by
David Loud (, best known for his collaborations with Kander and Ebb and Stephen Sondheim).
The musical has crossed the Atlantic, with successful UK productions
in 2023 and 2024, bringing Hampton’s adaptation to audiences in
Austen’s homeland. These productions have further cemented the
musical’s reputation as a faithful yet innovative interpretation of
Austen’s work, resonating with both longtime fans of the novel and
newcomers to the story.
