DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE POLICY
APPLICANTS AND EMPLOYEES
A. POLICY
It is HEPACO, Inc.’s policy to prohibit the use, possession, sale, transportation or distribution of
illegal or unauthorized substances on HEPACO’s premises, on a job location or during working time
or hours. Because of serious safety and business consequences, employees are also prohibited from
reporting to work or being at work while under the influence of, or being impaired or otherwise
affected by, any intoxicating or mind-altering substances. In honoring its duty to employees,
customers and the public, HEPACO will endeavor to maintain a drug and alcohol free work force by
testing job applicants and employees for drug and alcohol abuse. Compliance with this policy is a
condition for employment for all applicants and employees.1
No part of this policy is intended to affect HEPACO’s right to manage its work
force and the work place. This policy does not alter the “at-will” status of
employees or create a contract of employment or guarantee of continued
employment. Either you or HEPACO can end the employment relationship at any
time for any reason. Furthermore, HEPACO reserves the right to alter, amend or
make exception to its Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy in its discretion.
B. OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this policy are to provide the following:
1) Clear guidelines and consistent procedures for handling incidents of employees’ use of alcohol,
drugs or other controlled substances that affect job performance and to make every effort to
create and maintain a drug-free work place;
2) A safe and enjoyable environment for all employees and others;
3) Preservation of personal and HEPACO property and assets;
4) Improve quality, performance and productivity;
5) Substance abuse prevention education for all employees and supervisory training regarding
problem recognition and the implementation of this policy; and
6) Protection from unreliable and inadequate examinations and screening for controlled
substances.
1 Employees who drive certain “commercial motor vehicles” for HEPACO will not be subject to this policy. Instead,
these employees will be tested as mandated by federal law.
