Miracles do happen
Jenga
Jenga arrived at The Horse Trust in November 2012 as a rescue case. Jenga’s condition was truly appalling; he was emaciated, full of worms and suffering from a severe bacterial infection. He was so close to death that we had to send him immediately to the Royal
Veterinary College (RVC) for emergency treatment. At five months old, Jenga was so weak that for months he was unable to stand unaided. Despite extraordinary efforts, Jenga’s health did not improve. We had to send him back to the RVC to make sure he had 24 hour veterinary care for a whole month, only returning to us in the middle of January 2013.
Thanks to your support and generosity and with the hard work and dedication from our team here at The Horse Trust, Jenga has made a full recovery and is now under training in the hope that one day he can be rehomed. Looking at the happy and healthy pony that Jenga has become, it is hard
to imagine the same sick, lifeless foal that arrived with us back in 2012.
Maggie
As you may remember, Maggie arrived with us in a terrible state after being seized from a field of horses by the RSPCA and the Police in 2013. This poor little mare was severely emaciated and had been eating tree bark to survive in a flooded field. Maggie’s
terrible condition and severe lice infestation meant she had to be admitted to the Royal Veterinary College for intensive care. We were then told that Maggie had a 50/50 chance of survival as her condition was so poor and only weighing a mere 285kg for her 14.3hh frame. After months of specialist care working with the Vet and our Equine Care Team, Maggie’s condition showed signs of improvement. She started getting stronger and had so much more energy than what was once such a lifeless horse. Her personality shone through and we really saw what a lovely little mare Maggie was, now that she was healthier and enjoying life how she should.
In July 2016, three years on since she arrived with us, we were ready to wave her goodbye to her new home knowing that she will continue living the life that any horse deserves to live; running around in the fields with her new friends and getting pampered!. This really is a happy ending to what
was a very sad life for this beautiful mare before she came to The Horse Trust.
We know that saving one horse won’t change the world, but it will change the world for our beautiful Maggie.
