Meet Our Newbies
Our first Scottish police boys
Mull 17hh skewbald gelding born 1996
Mull and Kilsyth are our first ever police horses to be retired from Police Scotland. Mull, the striking skewbald was the first ever coloured horse to serve for Police Scotland and began his career with Strathclyde Police in 2003 and latterly Police Scotland when all 8 Scottish police forces merged. Mull has carried out all police duties throughout his career, including parades, football matches, concerts and public order duties. Mull was used extensively in the policing of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow because of his confidence around large crowds. Mull’s striking looks and friendly nature meant that he was always very popular with
the public. In 2004, he was the only Scottish police horse to ever take part in the Lord Mayor’s Parade. Mull and Kilsyth have been inseparable since their arrival; however they are very different characters. Mull is very charming and easy-going, compared to Kilsyth, who well, knows his own mind!
Kilsyth 16.3hh grey gelding born 1996
Kilsyth is our gorgeous grey gelding who has retired after 15 years’ service. He followed the same path as Mull and started out with Strathclyde Police and then continued with Police Scotland. Kilsyth has carried out all police duties to the highest standard but particularly excelled in football crowd control and public order duties, where his bravery and courage was second to none. Because of his aptitude for public order/crowd control situations, Kilsyth had been a preferred supervisor’s horse for many
years at all major events. While Kilsyth is not the easiest horse to handle, he has been one of the best police horses in the Scottish Mounted Police Unit in recent years. Kilsyth put his all into his police work and was a very popular boy with the riders due to his brave, but loving personality, and who is a natural born leader.
