Every year, World Migratory Bird Day, celebrated on
th
11 May, presents an annual theme aiming to raise
awareness of issues affecting migratory birds and to
inspire people and organizations around the world to
take measures for their conservation.
Plastic is one of the most widely used materials in the
world. Lightweight and designed to last, discarded
pieces of plastic are easily transported to ecosystems
through the forces of nature causing serious threats to
migratory species around the world. The number of
seabirds dying from the effects of plastic every year
is increasing day by day.
GIHS strives to create an awareness amongst the
people through its very strong medium- ‘students’ who
are the future of the world.
As a new global platform that unifies efforts worldwide,
World Migratory Bird Day will be reinforcing education
and awareness, raising the need to protect migratory
birds and their habitats. The students of Gulf Indian
High School celebrated the International Migratory
th
Bird Day on 9 May 2019 with various activities.
