Senior Result: Avondale United 2-1 Cobh Wanderers.

Wanderers will be very disappointed to come away from
Avondale with nothing to show for their efforts. A superb
goal from Cal Sheehy in the 79th minute, a left foot curl-
er into the top corner having cut in from the right, turned
out to be a mere consolation at full time. Wanderers were
by far the better side in the first half but failed to have a
decent attempt on goal despite their greater possession.
Avondale came out for the second half a more deter-
mined outfit and took the lead on 49 minutes.

A throw-in on the left was quickly fed to the striker who
had time to turn and shoot low to the keepers right just inside the post. The killer
second came in the 69th minute through a great move down the Avondale left. A
superb pass into the path of the winger and a pull back from the by-line allowed the
number nine the simplest of side-foot finishes from the middle of the goal six yards
out. Wanderers upped their game and produced the lifeline goal from Sheehy but
their efforts to grab an equaliser ended in vain.

U19 Result: Cobh Wanderers 3-0 Lakewood Athletic A.

The 19’s made it two wins out of two in the league today with a comfortable victory
over Lakewood in Old Church Park. Wanderers were on top throughout but didn’t
reflect their superiority on the scoreline which led to a few nervy moments later on
when Cian O’ Rourke had to make a couple of fine saves to keep Lakewood at bay.
Despite our dominance in the first half, it was only a strike from Keelin Ryan that
seperated the teams at half time. Diarmuid Kearney added a second early in the
second half and this should have set up an easy victory but it took ‘till the 87th min-
ute for Richard Silovs to put the game to bed and secure the three points that the
team easily deserved. Excellent performances from Lewis Whelan who had a super
game at centre back. Diarmuid Kearney, P.J. O’ Regan and Richard Silovs had great
games on the day. Special mention for Kyle Fermedge who put in a fine display
    today.
Scorers: Keelin Ryan 29, Diarmuid Kearney 49, Richard Silovs 87
