THE CHANGE MAKER’S GUIDE TO NEW HORIZONS

               why experiential learning, learning through experiences, is one of the most effective ways to
               learn. The experiential learning process may be intentional: attending a training programme;

               or unintentional: learning to put a coat on when it’s cold outside!

               David Kolb’s learning cycle below, shows the four-step process of experiential learning (Kolb

               and Fry, 1974). He suggests that it involves having a new experience, reflecting on outcomes,

               conceptualising and choosing options, and experimenting with what you have learned.

               Kolb states that in order to gain genuine knowledge from an experience, the learner must
               have four abilities:

                   • The learner must be willing to be actively involved in the experience

                   • The learner must be able to reflect on the experience
