ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How will my order be delivered?
Most orders will ship via UPS ground, at our Guaranteed Ground freight rate (see pg. 244), unless otherwise requested by you.
You pay the freight, so it is your option to ship via air freight if you need your order sooner.
Many overnight, 2-day, and 3-days options are available. Larger let- ters over 30" may have to ship via truck freight. These orders may ship freight collect with a carrier of your choice.
When I condense a Gemini formed plastic or cast metal letter style, why is it considered a custom style?
For all of Gemini's standard formed plastic and cast metal letters, the molds are pre-made at that specific size (height and width). Therefore, if any dimension is changed, the pre-made molds are no longer the correct size for the application, new molds will have to be made and it is considered a custom letter style.
Why does Gemini send an art approval drawing?
Everyone may interpret a drawing differently. To minimize the possibility of an incorrect interpretation that can result in delays and added costs, Gemini sends an art approval for your review on custom order requests.
Production on these orders will not begin until you have signed and returned this document agreeing the sizes, finish, mounting, layout (line length) and material is correct as you requested.
Art approval drawings will NOT be sent out for any request with standard Gemini letter styles unless you specifically request one.
How do I know what mounting option to use?
When contacting Gemini for a quotation or order, always let us know the mounting surface you will be installing the letters, logos and/or plaques on and we will advise you on our recommended mounting option(s) for that surface. If you are installing on a brick (or block) surface, always request in line for brick (or block) to en- sure the studs are aligned to the mortar joints instead of the bricks (or blocks)
When can I use double face tape and what does Gemini offer with this mounting method?
Gemini uses 3M VHB tape on these orders. We recommend double face tape only on interior display letters, thin gauge plaques, and laser cut acrylic. We use squares or short strips of tape on the backs of the product. They are spaced far enough apart to sufficiently hold the product secure if the mounting surface has been properly cleaned and is suitable for tape applications. Gemini can cover the entire back of small letters at an additional charge upon request.
We also recommend using an exterior grade adhesive (matched to your material) in combination with the tape for those installations. For specific information you should visit the 3M website for tapes and IPS Corp. for adhesives.
Do Gemini's plaques meet ADA specifications?
Yes - All Gemini ADA plaques have raised characters 1/32" from sign face. The Grade 2 braille will also be raised 1/32", with perfectly round tops and separated 3/8" from corresponding text. Plaque design should allow for adequately contrasting foreground and background for compliant visibility per ADA regulations. All ADA plaques are coated standard with matte clear coat for maximum durability. The typestyle on standard signs is usually Helvetica. Alternate type styles may be specified on custom ADA signs, but restrictions on styles do apply in meeting ADA specifications. The symbols depicted on Gemini’s ADA signs meet Department of Transportation stan- dards.
All raised lettering, symbols and borders on standard ADA signs receive a brushed finish. The raised Grade 2 Braille is painted to match the back- ground. Raised areas may be painted with a color that contrasts with the background color upon request.
Borders on standard ADA signs are 1/8" wide raised single lines with radius corners. Other borders styles and corners are available on custom ADA signs.
If they are not already, offices, medical facilities, schools, and government buildings are becoming ADA compliant. As more and more businesses and buildings comply with ADA policies, you will find that ADA-compliant signs must be installed in the proper location and conform to local regulations that often dictate interior sign requirements, such as maximum occupancy signs and evacuation maps.
