Neurosis Refers to a large category of psychiatric disorders in which the
symptoms are distressing to the person, reality testing is within
normal limits, behavior does not violate gross social norms , and
there is no apparent cause. Ex, anxiety disorder and obsessive
compulsive disorder.
Psychosis Refers to any major mental disorder characterized by a gross
impairment in reality testing and often characterized by
inappropriate mood and diminished impulse control. Symptoms
include hallucinations (false sensory perceptions) and delusions (false
beliefs) Ex. Schizophrenia and pyromania
Phobia Is a persistent, irrational, intense fear of something specific, such as fear
of fire, an activity, meeting strangers, or leaving the familiar setting of
home.. Ex agoraphobia, irrational fear of open spaces, marked fear of
being alone or being in public places.
Neurasthenia Nervous condition characterized by chronic weaknesses, fatigue and
sometimes exhaustion.
Autism Is characterized by withdrawal and impaired development in social
interaction and communication.
Attention Characterized by short attention span, poor communication and
