Cleansing Solution in Cancerous Wound Management

        Author: Anuttra Wunnasaweg

        Institutional: Ubon Ratchathani Center Hospital

        Background:

Cancerous wounds are complex wounds that can bleed,

become malodorous due to infection and are painful causing suffer.

        Aims:

A clinical evaluation was conducted to look at the clinical
effectiveness of polyhexanide containing cleaning solution in patients

        with cancerous wound.

        Methods:
This was a descriptive, retrospective study of patients with
cancerous wounds at outpatient wound clinic of Ubon Ratchathani

Cancer Hospital in Thailand. Data were collected from October 2015
to September 2016. A wound assessment information included

necrotic tissue at wound bed, pain, pruritus, malodor, exudates, and
bleeding after polyhexanide containing cleaning solution.

        Results:
1,249 cancer patients were included with ulcerating (91.8

%) and fungating (8.24 %) lesion. The cancerous wound characteristic
change were decreased necrotic tissue at wound bed (100 %), fast

pain reduction (98 %) except wound of Liposarcoma (2 %), decreased
        pruritus (95.8 %), malodor controlled (100 %), minimized exudates (100
        %), and bleeding controlled (100 %).

        Conclusion:

Patients reported decreased necrotic tissue at wound bed,
fast pain reduction, decreased pruritus, malodor controlled, minimized
exudates, and bleeding The results indicate the polyhexanide

containing cleaning solution to be a safe and effective treatment for
        Cancerous wounds.
