6.2.2.1 CATEGORIES PURCHASED: ON-LAND
Our research shows that Souvenirs is the most widely purchased category from the on-land Duty & Tax Free retail channel among European cruise travellers, with a third of those making a purchase from an on-land store buying from this category.
As with on-land stores throughout all cruise regions, Souvenirs present a key opportunity for on-land retailers to differentiate their product offering from other Travel Retail channels with location specific offerings, for example handmade olive dishes at Greek based stores or Murano glass at Italian stores.
The demand for Souvenirs could also be expanded to other categories, through incorporating location based offerings, for example Saffiano leather goods incorporated into the Fashion & Accessories category at Italian stores or Ouzo incorporated in the Alcohol offering at Greek stores.
Tobacco is the second most purchased on- land category, with this being driven by British and German travellers. Older and male travellers are also more likely to purchase Tobacco at on-land stores. Tobacco purchasing is closely followed by Alcohol, where purchasers are significantly more likely to be British, older and male.
The Beauty category falls in prominence at on-land stores, with just 1 in 5 buyers purchasing a Beauty based item. This is likely to be driven by the on-board channel being prioritised for Beauty purchases.
