6.3.1 PURCHASE BARRIERS: VISITOR NON-BUYERS
Our research shows how three core reasons exist as to why a traveller will browse the available Duty & Tax Free offer on-board the cruise liner or on-land but not go on to make a purchase. These are:
 Being unable to find anything of interest
 Prices considered more expensive compared to other stores; and
 A lack of attractive promotional activity
Although these three areas should be prioritised when looking at strategies to overcome barriers to purchasing, additional factors including travellers wanting to spend their money on something else, not being able to find the product they are looking for, there being no opportunities for product sampling, and the product not being available in store should also be considered.
