Giving back to the community is not just something Ruiz Foods does on a regular basis, it's something the employees take pride in.
In the past couple of weeks Ruiz Foods, along with their employees, took it upon themselves to reach out to the community in different ways. On Dec. 17 employees filled a truck with large gifts bags (left) that were going out to CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. The national association helps abused or neglected children find permanent loving homes. Last week, Ruiz Foods also donated over 100 hams to local food pantries, including Open Gate Ministries. Also receiving hams was the Bethlehem Center of Visalia.

Carolyn Mikaelian
May 10, 1937 ~ December 20, 2018
Carolyn Mikaelian, age 81, passed away
peacefully on Thursday, December 20th,
2018, in Visalia, California. Carolyn was
born on May 10, 1937 to parents, Kaye
and Dupy Kachadoorian. She was a vivacious,
loving, spiritual person who deeply impacted
those who were blessed to be a part of her life. Carolyn was born and raised in Tulare, California and undoubtedly left a lasting impression with her fellow students in the elementary schools she attended as well as during her time at Tulare Union High School given her zest for life and out-going personality. She was the rst child of the close net Kazarian family and was pampered by those who loved her, including her beloved “Aunt Nanny”. Carolyn attended College of the Sequoias in Visalia where she was a cheerleader and during this period ran for Miss Tulare County where she was rst runner up after having played her beloved violin. While she was pursued by many, her friends Laura and Harry Davidian, insisted she meet Michael Mikaelian a local boy from Dinuba who had recently come back from the service to work on the family farm. Mike swept her off her feet once he got the nerve to show up for the second planned date. They moved to Dinuba after they married on December 29, 1956 where Carolyn continued to make her mark on life by assisting Mike in his quest to become the best farmer in the area. That was no small task, given Mike’s drive and determination but Carol was up to the task and undoubtedly helped him achieve the success they were able to enjoy in their business endeavors. They were blessed with three children, Michael, Debbie and Kevin who all lived in a very small home in Orosi that often had to accommodate many family and friends. But it was a home that was full of wealth in the only way that matters.
Eventually the family moved into Carol’s dream home on Ave 400 in Dinuba, California where they continued to host many memorable parties, including viewing some very spirited football games. Carol may be remembered by some for her spirit in the stands as well, watching her two sons play football rst at Orosi High School and then at Dinuba High School. Her kids would often cringe at her antics but that did not stop her from being a part of the game, even from the bleachers.
Her dream of being a grandmother was ful lled with the birth of her rst grandchild, Nicole, in 1992 which was then followed by her next grandchild, Matthew. She was a constant presence in their lives living across the street from her daughter Debbie, and would often be seen walking between the two homes to “check on the kids”. She was blessed later in life to become an instant grandmother to two beautiful little girls, Taylor and Presley, with the marriage her son Kevin. She was the recipient of another blessing with the birth of little Luke, who to date shows as much energy for life as his grandmother. She was further blessed to become a grandmother to Derek with the marriage of her son Michael.
Carolyn was very fortunate to have her son, Michael, work on the ranch and was a very treasured part of her daily life, even more so as her zest for life was slowly extinguished and she needed continued care. It was her children’s turn to take care of her and they did so lovingly, after having been taught by the example of their mother who continually sacri ced for others. Carol not only was there for her family and friends whenever life necessitated a loving and caring hand, she also was a vital part of the Armenian Church in Yettem, California. Those who grew up in the church were blessed to hear her angelic voice every Sunday as a soloist in the choir and eventual choir director. Carol was very active in St. Mary Ladies Society, where she served as chairman of the Ladies Society Central Council and held all of the of ce on the Central Council.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Mike Mikaelian, children, Michael (Sandra) Mikaelian, Debbie (Rob) Agnew and Dr. Kevin (Kristy) Mikaelian, grandchildren, Nicole and Matthew Agnew, Taylor, Presley and Luke Mikaelian and Derek Montgomery.
Carolyn is survived by her brother Kaye (Judy) Kachadoorian, sister Helen Ramirez and families. She also leaves behind Mikaelian family members and many dear friends.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00pm on Wednesday, December 26, at Dopkins Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Armenian Church, Yettem, California on Thursday December 27, at 9:30am.
In lieu of owers, donations may be made to St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church, P.O. Box 367, Yettem, CA 93670.
