A man believed to be the suspect fled the vehicle, police said. He ran across the roadway and officers deployed an electronic stun device in an attempt to apprehend him, but were unsuc- cessful.
At this point, the man began firing a hanging at the two officers, who returned fire. The sus- pect ran back across the street, toward a marked Reedley Police patrol unit and jumped into the driver's seat. The of- ficers took cover and or- dered the suspect to exit the vehicle.
Assisting units ar- rive on the scene and an emergency services unit was staged nearby. Of- ficers then approached the vehicle, and discov- ered the suspect was unconscious. He imme- diately was removed from the vehicle and evaluated for medical treatment.
Paramedics were called to the scene once it was safe, and the man was pronounced dead.
