to give the Lady Emperors a 5-0 lead.
In the fifth inning Dinuba added another run when junior Kaily Manning knocked in Garcia for her second run of the game and a 6-0 advantage for the No. 1 seeded team.
Liberty finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning when a dropped fly ball to right field scored Hawks senior Karli Fien. A sacrifice grounder late in the inning then scored teammate Camille Vestal to cut the Lady Emperors lead to four.
But the Lady Emperors quickly got those runs back in the bottom of the inning. With runners on the corners, a grounder by Villarreal scored Dinuba senior Faith Kodur to give Dinuba a 7-2 lead.
Then, with two runners on base, Newlin stepped up to score the Lady Emperors’ second three-run homer of the game, sending one over the left field fence to give Dinuba their 10-2 lead and subsequent victory.
“They were already pumped,”
said Patterson of his team prior to Friday’s performance. “They knew what was at stake. They know what their goal is and they haven’t lost sight of that. They were ready to go.”
With the victory over Liberty, the Lady Emperors earned themselves a semifinals matchup against No. 4 Tehachapi, who beat Reedley 10-5 on Friday.
“It should be a tough matchup,” said Patterson of their semifinals game. “Tehachapi is going to be good.”
The semifinals matchup against Tehachapi took place yesterday afternoon, after publication. A Dinuba win against the Warriors would put the Lady Emperors in the CIF Division III Valley championship game on Saturday, where they would take on the winner between No. 3 Tulare Union and No. 2 Selma.
The Valley title game will be played on the softball diamond at Fresno State, with the start time to be determined.

“Not the time I wanted, but I’ll take it,” said Martinez after the 300. “I’ll get it back at state. I’ve got two weeks to get ready.”
Dinuba sophomore Nathaniel Medina also competed in the 300-meter hurdles, making it to the event as an alternate. Medina finished in 16th place with a time of 43.11 seconds.
Martinez also qualified to participate in the long jump event at the Masters but opted to not compete in that event to focus his energy on the hurdles event.
The CIF State Championship
Prelims will begin on June 1 and will conclude on June 2. The event will also be held at Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School.
