Suspect leads Dinuba Police on high-speed chase
News
The Dinuba Sentinel
Sentinel staff report
A Dinuba man was arrested Monday evening after a pursuit through the city.
Jose Francisco Ruiz, 41, allegedly led Dinuba Police on a high-speed chase after officers attempted to contact him on a traffic violation in the area of Ventura and P streets, a report from the Dinuba Police said. During the chase, officers identified the vehicle as stolen.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office set spike strips in the area of Road 112 and Avenue 340, where the vehicle pursuit ended. Ruiz reportedly swerved off a dirt shoulder and struck a power pole in an attempt
to drive around the spike strips. He allegedly attempted to flee on foot while three passengers remained in the vehicle.
Ruiz was arrested and transported to a local area hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained in the collision. He faces “several felony charges for possessing the stolen vehicle, felony evading and fleeing from the scene of an injury traffic collision,” the
Dinuba Police report said.

difference for him? It was a teacher. So I tell my teachers about the power they have. Every day we work at building the world that we want to live in, that we want our kids to live in. When you retire you want as many people working as possible. We cannot fail in our job.”
The story of Jose is just one reason why Valdez continues to put in the hard work to make sure others in her community also have the opportunity to live their dreams.
“I promised him a job teaching math,” said Valdez. “But he’s going to work for NASA.”

“I’ve always been so passionate
about my work,” said Valdez. “Who has the power to positively affect the future? I think educators do. You see kids who maybe didn’t have a future. Maybe they felt lost. If you could just reach that child their life could be completely different.”
Valdez told the story of a young man named Jose who, though bright, was lost in a world of gangs just a few years ago. Jose had been kicked out of every school he had been to and found himself in independent studies during his high school years.

But then his independent studies teacher saw something in him and recognized that Jose was gifted in mathematics. She worked with him and realized the math she was teaching him was not enough for him.
She advocated for him and got him back into Orosi High School. Jose, after being in and out of jail and even having been stabbed, is now graduating from College of the Sequoias, where he is the president of MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) and will
be going off to UCLA in the fall. Said Valdez, “Who made a
