the program focusing on just sporting a varsity squad.
When school resumes in two weeks, there could be up to 14-16 boys on the roster, according to Guzman.
“I’m not sure if we will field a junior varsity team this year.” Guzman said.
Sergio Hernandez, who serves as a coach for the girls and boys teams, says getting players has been a struggle over the past few years.
That is not the case for the girls who are up to 25 players, Hernandez said.
“It’s a comfortable number and we will be able to have two teams,” he said.
Hernandez is looking forward to the upcoming season as this group happens to be his first senior class.
“I’m pumped up,” Hernandez said. “It’s never the same feeling.
You get new girls each year and these are the girls I had when I first started four years ago.”
Hernandez said this year the Central Sequoia League welcomes Hanford West. The Huskies have been a member of the West Yosemite League.
“We played them last year and won,” Hernandez said.
Dinuba will be in action on Aug. 14 as the Emperors play at Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia.

a first-year AD like myself,” Freitas said. “You know you have people you can trust that are self-sufficient and I’m learning as much as I can from them. As
soon as I came on board and talked to different staff members and teachers, everybody said we have great kids and you’ll love them. I found that to be true.”
Freitas graduated from Fresno State with a degree in kinesiology with an emphasis on physical education. Before earning his degree from Fresno
State, Freitas had played baseball at Cal State Sacramento. He was a member of the College of Sequoias baseball team and is a graduate of Lemoore High School where he played football, basketball and baseball.
Freitas is excited to be a part of not only Dinuba athletics but the community.
“I’ve already fallen in love with the community,” Freitas said. “Everybody has been very supportive and it feels like family to me.”
Frietas has three daughters and outside of work, he enjoys working out, attending his daughter’s sporting events and listening to music.
