District Doings
• Open Gate Ministries of Dinuba, which has provided emergency food, shelter, clothing, job training, financial aid, spiritual encouragement and counseling to the needy of Tulare County since 1974, will hold its annual Soup, Salad and Pie Lunch on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Palm United Methodist Church. The church is located on the corner of Tulare and P streets in downtown Dinuba.
All-you-can-eat soup is only $6, side salad costs $1 and a piece of pie costs $2. Take-out will also be available.
Centerpieces and boutique items will be available for purchase as well.

• The Dinuba Woman's Club will be hosting their Annual Fundraising event on Feb. 23 from 11-3 at the Dinuba Memorial Hall.
The "Butterfly Brunch and Boutique" tickets are on sale for $25. Ticket price includes access to vendor Boutique, lunch, fashion show and door prize drawings.
Grand Prize drawing tickets will be sold at the event.

•The Dinuba High School Class of 1966 will be celebrating a 70th Birthday Bash on Saturday, May 4 at Richie's Barn in Visalia. The celebration will be themed as a Western venue and attendants are encouraged to come dressed accordingly, or casual.

Sequoia Symphony to
play 'Copland to Jazz'

The Sequoia Symphony will play a variety of Americana music from “Copland to Jazz” on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Visalia Fox Theatre.
In honor of the 120th anniversary of Gershwin’s birth, the orchestra will play famous songs from “Porgy and Bess.” “Lincoln Portrait” by Copland is narrated with excerpts from Abraham Lincoln’s great documents. Doing the readings is Judith Valles, who went from the barrio of San Bernardino to complete a doctorate and become the first Latina to serve as president of a California

Alvarado, the orchestra’s principal clarinetist, who will perform the “Clarinet Concerto” by Bolcom. American West music by William Grant Still and Midwestern music by Daugherty complete the program.
The concert will be held at the Visalia Fox Theatre, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Kiesling will discuss the pieces at a pre- concert talk at 6:45 p.m.
