The coach said both Vil- larreal and Chavez have put in extensive work in the gym to improve their craft.
"Our leaders, whether through vocal leadership or by example, put in more time than the other guys. And they're the guys we can trust in the clutch moments," said Ferrell.
Whereas last year's team had only one group of play- ers that pressed, Ferrell said the current Pirates squad has three to four groups that can apply strong defensive pressure.
"Orange Cove shot 52
free throws against us, but weheldthemto0for13 from the three point line," he said. "They are a team that's very scrappy, and when they can hit the three they are very dangerous."
Ferrell said this year's North Yosemite League race figures to be pretty bal- anced. He expects Sunny- side, Fresno and Roosevelt to be the top three contend- ers.
"The thing about the NYL is that most of the teams are long and athletic," he said. "All are pretty much Divi- sion 2 teams and one Divi- sion 1. We're Division 4, so it really prepares us for the postseason."

Another young player who'll step up this season is sophomore Winston Wil- liams. The 6-4 forward and center saw lim- ited minutes playing behind experienced starters, and will bolster the team's inside game. The team's other senior is forward Josiah Barker. The Eagles have five sopho- mores and two freshman on the varsity.
After the TOC, Immanuel has another home game against Madera South on Tues- day, Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles then play consecutive weeks at tournaments in Salinas and Santa Cruz during a stretch of 13 games in 19 days.
"The kids have been kind of anxious, but I let them know we have plenty of bas- ketball coming up," Woods said.

Senior forward-center Kaleb Daglish is one of the top returnees for Immanuel High School's boys in 2018-19.
Also, a revised school year schedule throughout the Central Section has moved up schedules in all sports. This year, the Eagles' Central Sequoia League season opens in December rather than January as in past years. This year's CSL opener will be on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at home against Kingsburg High School, between the tour- neys in Salinas and Santa Cruz.
The Eagles also will play at Exeter in a league contest before the end of the calen- dar year, then return to CSL play on Friday, Jan. 4, at home against Dinuba.
Earlier league seasons mean that sec- tion playoffs also begin a week earlier than usual. Opening rounds are on Wednesday, Feb. 13, with the finals scheduled for Fri- day, Feb. 22 in Fresno.
Immanuel's boys basketball tradition includes 15 section titles, including the past five in two different enrollment divisions.
