rescues July 12 on Kings River
 MVT Staff Report
Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office's Boating Enforcement unit along with fire- fighters from Cal Fire were in- volved in a pair of rescues along the Kings River last week.
The incident occurred short- ly before noon on July 12 on a stretch of the river near Annad- ale and Riverbend avenues near Sanger, according to FCSO.
The father and 15-year-old son (both wearing lifejackets) were in separate kayaks, and the teen struck a tree in the river and flipped his kayak. As he clung to a tree to prevent himself from being carried downstream, his father then flipped his kayak af- ter turning around to try to help his son. The man made it safely to shore.
Firefighters launched their

boat and rescued the boy. While still on the water, another call came in for a rescue south of the
initial call. Two women and a dog, on separate floating tubes, struck a different tree along the river. Cal Fire quickly rescued the women and dog and took them to shore. Both were not wearing life jackets.
The tree involving the kayak- ers – located about a quarter-mile south of the Annadale Bridge — is a major hazard that has been the site of four different rescues within a six-day period.
The Sheriff’s Office encourag- es anyone out on the river to pay close attention to where they are going as they float downstream. Identify objects early on and create a plan to safely navigate around them. They said do not tie rafts or tubes together because if one gets stuck, they will all get stuck. Once they become entan- gled, it creates a dangerous and possibly even deadly situation.

had come forward. The illegal skimmer devices make it possi- ble for scammers to re- trieve account numbers and pin numbers to credit and debit cards. Once in possession of that information, scam- mers can make charges on the victims' accounts and also create dupli-
cate cards.
Vela said that a ju-
venile was arrested back in March, and had been responsible for a number of documented incidents going back to January in Dinuba, Reedley and Selma. He said that at the time of the juvenile's arrest, he had 150 cards in his possession.
"That case [involving the juvenile] has gone to court, and he was released. He was sup- posed to have moved out of state." Vela said the has been spotted on
video at other banks. Vela said that the public needs to be diligent when making transactions at public ATMs or gas stations, as they were suscep- tible to skimmer devic- es. In the latest case, an alarm sounded and bank officials were no- tified when the people installing the skimmers attempted to remove
the device.
"People need to cov-
er their pin numbers [when making a trans- action], and watch to see if they can spot a skimmer. These guys are getting more cre- ative," he said.
Vela added that no gas stations in Dinuba have been victimized, but there have been seven different docu- mented incidents of electronic fraud in the city between January and May. The skimmer thieves also tend to move often from city to city.
