“Once our defense started togetgoingitgaveusalotof confidence,” Veeder said. “The whole o-line was fired up. The main thing we were doing was running the ball and we were all doing our jobs on the runs.”
On the opening possession of the second half, Dinuba kept punishing the Rangers up front marching to the 11-yard line. The long drive was capped off by a touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Magaña who found Jaime Ramirez in the back of the end zone.
Redwood would mount
another long drive only to be denied when a pass in the end zone was incomplete.
The Emperors went straight to work scoring a touchdown run by Josh Meave with less than two minutes remaining.
“Dinuba is an outstanding team,” said Redwood coach Shaun Ball. “We played well at times, but we were just outplayed.”
Leading the way defensively for DHS was linebacker Daniel Long who had nine tackles including a sack. Elias Garcia ended the game with seven tackles while J. Sanchez, Johnny Garcia, and Mike Wilson each had six tackles. Ray Alvarado, Pedro Ledesma and Ronnie Rubalcaba contributed closed out the night with four tackles apiece.
The Emperors will be on the road Friday night as they face Reedley.

Orosi High School’s boys cross country team placed 11th overall at the Dinuba Inivtational held Saturday.
The Cardinals had 253 points and were led by senior Sinoel Garcia who finished 37th overall in a time of 11 minutes, 11.52 seconds. Classmate Nicolas

11:44.41 while David Hernandez was three spots behind in a time of 11:51.59.
Other team members who participated in the 2-mile race were Gilberto Giron (69th, 12:02.54), Marco Garcia (80th, 13:34.12), and Andres Contreras (86th, 16:32.73).
Coming out on top of the individual race was Redwood’s Bailey Darnell (9:26.10) and Lindsay was the top team with 68 points.
Although, the OHS girls team did not field a full squad, they were led by junior Fabiola Rodriguez, who had a time of 12:59 for 38th place.
Junior Daniela Tejada was 64th in 14:53.48 and Esby Mercado was 84th in 19:21.95.
Lindsay’s McKaylie Caesar won the race in 10:58.28. McFarland was the top team with 45 points.
In the frosh/soph girls race, Cintia Mondragon was 12th in a time of 14:08.44 and Gerve Viloria was 35th in 17:06.44.
The overall winner of that race was Sunnyside’s Reagan Nau who was timed in 12:11.

Dinuba High senior Nicholas Amezola finds himself in the middle of the pack during the varsity boys race at the Dinuba Invitational on Saturday. Amezola was the top finisher for the team, placing 34th overall in a time of 10:36.64. The race was won by Redwood’s Bailey Darnell, one of the top runners in the section. Dinuba’s next cross country meet will be held next Wednesday, Sept. 5 as they participate in the East Bakersfield Invitational at Lake Ming.

Dinuba High senior running back Joshua Martinez was named the Athlete of the Week for his performance against Redwood High. Martinez rushed for 188 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns in a 35-0 win over the Rangers.

DHS girls water polo team picks up their second win this season Sentinel Sports
The Dinuba High girls water polo team defeated Fresno High, 16-1, late Monday afternoon in a non-league match in Fresno.
The Emperors improved to 2-5 overall as they head into another busy stretch of matches that includes hosting Sierra Pacific this afternoon. The Bears finished last season as the Central Section Division 3 runner-ups, according to coach Sergio Hernandez.
Prior to their match against Fresno, the Emperors wrapped up play in the Tulare Tournament with a 1-3 record. Dinuba lost to Golden West (10-1) after defeating Sunnyside (5-2). The Emperors started the tournament losing to Lemoore (13-4) and Central Sequoia League rival Kingsburg (12-2).
The Emperors opened the season with a 17-9 loss to Mission Oak and a 16-2 setback against Reedley.
