Runners do well at Sierra Paci c meet
Orosi hands Dos Palos an 8-2 loss

A sweep in doubles play helped propel the Orosi High School girls tennis team to a 7-2 win over visiting Dos Palos on Thursday.
Orosi’s Jasmin Andrada and Carla Torres took down the No. 1 doubles team of Daniella Calderon and Natalie Olivo, 8-2.
At No. 2 doubles, Gabriela Rodriguez and Citaly Lozano defeated Leslie Reyes and Elisa Drayton, 8-4 and Joselyn Rangel along with Destidy Perez blanked Michelle Servin and Janeth Rojas, 8-0.
In singles, No. 1 Andrada beat Calderon, 8-2, and No. 2 Torres handed Olivo an 8-2 loss. Rodriguez dropped a tough 8-5
decision to Reyes at No. 3 while Lozano beat Drayton, 8-3, at No. 4. and Yessenia Sanchez beat Elizabeth Bustamante, 8-2, at No. 5.
The toughest match of the day was at No. 5 singles as Dos Palos’ Vianney Reyna upended Yudit Garibay, 7-7 (10-8).
On October 2, West Sequoia League leader Firebaugh posted a 9-0 win over the Cardinals.
Torres came very close to pulling out a win at No. 2 singles against Janet Avila, but it was Avila who prevailed, 8-6. In doubles, Torres and Andrada battled the top team of Lisbeth Gasca and Avila in a 8-5 setback.
Orosi closes out the regular season at home this afternoon against Riverdale.
One runner short of competing in the team standings, the Orosi High boys cross country team did well during the Sierra Pacific Milky Way Invitational 5K run at Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford on Friday.
Sinoel Garcia paced OHS with a time of 18 minutes, 08.59 for 31st overall. Nicholas Chavez crossed the finish line in 44th place in 19:04.55.

In the girls race, Fabiola Rodriguez was 13th in a time of 22:36.74 and Daniela Tejeda was 23rd in 24:36.
Other runners competing that afternoon in the freshman race were Cintia Mondragon, who was ninth overall in 22:49.97, and Gerve Viloria came in 23rd in 27:09.72.
Orosi will be at tomorrow’s 37th Annual Rough Rider Invitational that will be held at Woodward Park.

Runners from the Orosi High cross country team will be in the 37th Annual Rough Rider Invitational tomorrow afternoon at Woodward Park. The Invitational will feature over 40 teams from the section.
After falling to Firebaugh earlier in the week, Orosi rebounded with a win over Dos Palos on Thursday.
The Orosi High girls volleyball team remains in first place in the West Sequoia League standings after a sweep over Caruthers. The Cardinals are currently 20-4-1 overall and 7-0 in league.

Orosi High’s volleyball team captured their fifth straight West Sequoia League match sweeping Caruthers on Thursday, 25-15, 25-12, 25-17.
The win improved the Cardinals record to 20-4-1 overall.
SayDee Alcala had a match- high 12 kills, four stuff blocks and three service aces.
Freshman Victoria Trevino added five kills while Sheanne Baniaga, Lesli Viveros, Aimee and Monica Quevedo, recorded
three kills apiece.
M. Quevedo had 20 assists
during the match.
In a 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 sweep
over Fowler on September 4, Alcala and Baniaga had eight kills apiece and Viveros added five.
OHS will wrap up WSL play next week that includes a huge match at Minarets on Tuesday. The Cardinals, defeated the Mustangs 3-1 in their first encounter. Minarets kept pace with OHS after sweeping Caruthers and Riverdale last week.

Running back Ismael Perez rushed for 156 yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown for the Cardinals in a 28-12 win over Fowler. As a team, Orosi finished with over 350 yards rushing. The Cardinals posted their second straight win, improving to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.

play, 60-yard scoring drive capped off by a short TD run by Huerta.
After forcing a punt, the Cardinals marched 66 yards on six plays as Arciga powered his way to a 17-yard touchdown run.
With less than 1:50 remaining in the first half, Mendoza was intercepted by Chris Huerta but the Cardinals were unable to capitalize as time expired.
Perez led the team with 156 yards on 18 carries, while Huerta had 133 yards on 21 carries and Arciga added 52 yards.
Defensively, Arciga had three solo tackles and assisted on another while Perez had three tackles, two for losses, while Sergio Mendoza added three tackles.
Kicker Mauricio Fausto went 4 for 4 in PAT’s.
The Cardinals will be playing at Minarets tomorrow night.

DINUBA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Dinuba High School’s Josh Magaña is named Athlete of the Week
after a big performance against rival Selma. Magaña completed 13 of 16 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns as the Emperors defeated the Bears, 35-0.
