In their season opener at Kings Christian, Orosi swept the host Crusaders 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.
Alcala had eight kills and four aces. Shey Baniaga recorded seven kills and Quevedo had 19 assists.
The Cardinals will have their home opener at Tuesday as they face Wonderful Prep College Academy.
Rodriguez had a 49-yard scoring reception and finished the game with 78 yards on four catches.
Fullback Freddi Arciga added 54 yards and a touchdown and Ismael Perez also had a TD.
Defensively, Ismael Perez intercepted a pass and finished the game with eight tackles.
The Cardinals will not be in action this week and will play at Granite Hills in Porterville on Aug. 30.

Orosi High School girls volleyball team dropped a non- league match at Woodlake on Thursday night, 3-1.
The Cardinals dropped the two first sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 before winning the third set 25-19. In a tight fourth set, the Tigers came out on top 25-22.

The Orange Cove Knights softball teams finished on top of the 10’s, 12 and 14 age divisions at a tournament in Santa Maria held last weekend. The teams played in honor of fallen firefighter Capt. Brian Hughes of the Arrowhead Interagency Hotshots. Capt. Hughes lost his life battling the Ferguson Fire in Mariposa County last month. Pictured above is the 10-year-old squad and below are the 12-year-olds.

•The Dinamite Volleyball Club of Dinuba will be holding a youth volleyball head start development program for boys and girls ages 8-12 wanting to join the 2018-19 12-and-under travel team. Sessions will be every Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. beginning Aug.
29 through Oct. 24. Cost is $100 per player.

McMaryion on another QB watch list as the season opener nears

Former Dinuba High standout and Fresno State quarterback Marcus McMaryion has been named one of 50 players on the watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm. The award is given annually to the nation’s outstanding senior or fourth- year quarterback in college football. Previous winners include Peyton and Eli Manning, Matt Ryan and Andrew Luck, to name a few.
McMaryion is also a 2018 Wuerfell Trophy nominee and on the Maxwell Award watch list.
McMaryion and the Bulldogs had a tremendous year last season finishing with a 10-4 overall record. Fresno State will kickoff their season on Sept. 1 as they host Idaho at 7 p.m.
Fresno State was tabbed as the favorite to win the Mountain West Conference’s West Division.

Magana connected on a pass play to Corey Cosper, tying the game.
Dinuba gained the lead 21-14 on a short touchdown run by running back Julian Gutierrez with just under 3 minutes remaining in the half.
In the the third quarter, the Emperors tacked on a field
goal by Christian Hernandez and increased the lead to 17 on Gutierrez’s second TD of the game. Dinuba threatened to add another score late in the quarter driving deep into Panthers territory when Porterville’s Eduardo Fausto came up with an interception.
The Panthers would then reel
off 19 straight points in the 4th quarter.
As a team, Dinuba rushed for 202 yards led by Martinez, who had 97 yards on 17 carries while Gutierrez had 62 yards on seven touches and three receptions for 47 yards.
Magana threw for 154 yards with a TD and an interception.
Receiver Jaime Ramirez caught three passes for 44 yards.
Defensively, Ethan Espinoza finished with nine total tackles and Joshua Sanchez had seven. Mike Wilson, Daniel Long and Justin Gonzalez each had six tackles. Sanchez and Ronnie Rubalcaba each had an interception.
